Sally Clark mayoral run is "pretty darn unlikely"

Posted by Emily Heffter

A post on local political blog Publicola today makes it sound like Seattle City Councilmember Sally Clark is on the verge of announcing a run for mayor.

She's not, although she said this afternoon she has entertained the thought.

"Like everybody else, I have thought about what would happen if there was to be a new mayor," she said. The particular temptation? A perception in political circles that two-term incumbent Greg Nickels is politically vulnerable. Clark said Nickels' record and style make him unpopular on some fronts, and she has considered whether she could be the one to beat him.

"That's a fantasy scenario," she said, "and it doesn't take into account a lot of realities."
So while it's fair to add her to the list of those considering a run, an actual campaign is "pretty darn unlikely."

Nickels faces three challengers so far: Corporate recruiter Norman Sigler, Sierra Club leader Michael McGinn, and business-owner and former pro-basketball player James Donaldson.
