Gregoire and Rossi's final ad pitches

Posted by Jim Brunner

Gov. Chris Gregoire and challenger Dino Rossi (and their allies) have spent the last several months beating each other up with millions in attack ads about sex offenders, tribal casinos, the minimum wage, stem cell research and taxes.

But as is common in the last days of a campaign, Rossi and Gregoire have released gentler ads that try to leave voters with a more positive impression as Election Day nears. These closing-statement ads show the candidates addressing the camera directly, over calming soundtracks of keyboard and acoustic guitar.

That's not to say the ads are one hundred percent positive. An election is an argument, after all.

In her spot, "Every Morning," Gregoire says, "My opponent would turn our state over to the wealthy and powerful special interests who put greed ahead of our families, our workers and our environment."

In Rossi's ad, "Economy," he says, "We've got some tough problems: a record budget deficit; traffic congestion; a stagnant economy. We have to change directions to get our economy back on track. Governor Gregoire has had her turn."
