Spokane lands another pre-Vancouver spectacle

Those busy event-organizing beavers over in Spokane have landed another big one in the weeks preceding the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.

The city, in addition to the U.S. Figure Skating Trials, will host a pre-Games clash of the U.S. and Canadian women's hockey teams. The game is set for Oct. 16, 2009, at Spokane Arena. It's part of a national tour by the U.S. women's team, winners of a gold, silver and bronze medal in three Olympic appearances.

Canada has ruled the past two Olympics, but the U.S. team is resurgent, having beaten Canada at the World Championships in China in April.

The game will be promoted by Star USA, which also landed the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Spokane Jan. 14-24, 2010. The event doubles as an Olympic trials during an Olympic year. Tickets are on sale now for that event.
