See you Oscar night -- unless they call the whole thing off

Posted by Moira Macdonald

Oh, they won't -- these days, the Oscars go on no matter what. But I'm taking a day off before diving back in on Sunday with lots of live chat and blogging for Oscar night. Do join me; it'll be nice to have company. We'll start at 4:30 p.m., right here.

But speaking of Gershwin, here's a treat to speed you off to your weekend: Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers on roller skates, singing and dancing "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" in 1937's "Shall We Dance." Just the way Ginger chews on her sunglasses while Fred's singing to her is too, too perfect. As is the way they get up and start skating, just like that. Heaven on wheels . . . or, to be more specific, on YouTube:

See you Sunday . . .
