Robert Downey Jr., an Oscar nominee this year (trivia: he's the first blackface nominee since Laurence Olivier in 1965's "Othello"), never fails to surprise -- so I can't wait to see him in November as Sherlock Holmes. This New York Times article shares some details about Guy Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes"; most notably, that he'll be a little less tweedy and a little more "Iron Man"-ish:

Alongside Jude Law as Watson, this Holmes will fall into "modern-style funks between cases, lying on the sofa, suffused with anomie, unshaven and unkempt, surrounded by a pile of debris. He keeps his bills pinned to the wall with a bowie knife." I'm a little iffy on Ritchie, who hasn't yet proven that he can do anything but gangster movies (if you saw "Swept Away," my sympathies -- at least I got paid to watch it), but have high expectations for the two leading men, at least. Can you think of better casting for the two of them? That's a paradox for Holmes himself . . .
