Russell Branyan, Brandon Morrow, still gametime decisions for Mariners
Posted by Geoff Baker
Don't forget Geoff Baker Live! coming up at 6 p.m. after the game.
As you can see down on the field, it's a bit of a cluster today. Hundreds of Little League types and their parents are parading around the field. That means batting practice was indoors and players did not come out to stretch until a few moments ago. A big day for the Mariners, who can move 6 1/2 games up on the Angels if undefeated Jarrod Washburn has his way with them today.
That's when manager Don Wakamatsu gives his daily press briefing, so we just got it. Russell Branyan is in the lineup today, but Wakamatsu will wait until gametime to decide whether his back is healthy enough to go. I passed by Branyan as he was returning from an indoor cage and was off to speak to Wakamatsu. Branyan gave no indication of whether he'd be ready.
Brandon Morrow is also questionable with that stiff shoulder, though, as we were talking to Wakamatsu in the dugout, Morrow returned from a bullpen session and gave his manager the "thumbs up!'' sign three times. If he can't go, David Aardsma would be the closer in his place. Jamie Burke gets a start behind the plate with Washburn. The pair worked well together last year and Rob Johnson tweaked his groin a little last night.
