Getting the final 17 outs of a game isn't easy for a bullpen under the best of circumstances. But this Oakland A's team is loaded with lefty-hititng power and the Mariners, you'll remember, have no southpaws to counteract that in the 'pen. So, this was a pretty significant test tonight.
And the Mariners survived, winning 5-4 and taking their third of five road contests to start the season.
David Aardsma came up huge those two final innings, with Brandon Morrow having been up all four of the prior games and not available tonight.
So, Aardsma gets the save. But this was a team effort tonight from Chris Jakubauskas, Roy Corcoran and Shawn Kelley as well. None of these guys are the more-heralded ones on this team. But they did the job tonight.
