A Mariner-like lineup
Posted by Bob Condotta
The lineup for tonight's game against the Australian entry in the World Baseball Classicc has been released, and it features the most recognizable names of any the team has used so far this spring --- with one really big name right in the middle.
Here it is
Ronny Cedeno, 2B
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS
Ken Griffey Jr. DH
Adrian Beltre, 3B
Russell Branyan, 1B
Wladimir Balentien, LF
Jeff Clement, C
Mike Morse, RF
Franklin Gutierrez, CF
Tonight will be the first appearance of the season for Griffey, Betancourt and Balentien. Betancourt has been nursing a hamstring injury, but did some hitting against minor league pitchers on Monday and then some running and appeared to come through it fine. Balentien arrived on Sunday after problems with his visa.
The starting pitcher tonight is Garrett Olson.
This is the first of three exhibition games for the Australian team --- it will play the Brewers tomorrow and the White Sox Friday before entering WBC play Sunday against Mexico in Mexico City.
