Shannon Drayer hired by KIRO
Posted by Larry Stone
I just heard that it's official -- Shannon Drayer has been hired to be the Mariners' beat reporter for KIRO radio. She will start officially on Feb. 1. Drayer's duties appear to be similar to those she ably handled for six seasons on KOMO before the station abruptly let her go last August in a cost-cutting move after losing the Mariners' contract to KIRO.
This is a great move by KIRO, and great news for Mariners' fans. Drayer is knowledgable and passionate. She will be an asset to their Mariners' broadcasts, just as she was on KOMO, where she traveled with the team, conducted interviews, contributed analysis on the pre- and post-game shows, and published an informative blog on their website.
Shannon never hid the fact that covering the Mariners was her dream job. I know she badly wanted to continue on KIRO and has been sweating out their decision. Now she can relax and get ready to report to Peoria.
