Corcoran sent down
Posted by Geoff Baker
Not much suspense on this move today, though the Mariners took their time announcing it. Roy Corcoran has been sent down to Class AAA to clear roster room for Erik Bedard to be activated off the DL.
I'll have more for you in a bit. Also, Jose Vidro takes a seat tonight and Greg Norton is the DH. Not just a rest being given Vidro, but a message as well. He has to get it going. The team is being told that as well, right at this moment now that BP is over. Manager John McLaren has seen enough and wants guys to know there will no longer be a free ride. If they want to play, they have to produce.

Geoff, it's not time for panic. You said so earlier. Why are we panicking? Why? Why?

"If they want to play, they have to produce."
That's all good and well to say and hear.... but I'll believe it when I see it.

Do they even have 9 guys producing to fill out a lineup? More like "if you want to play, you have to suck a little bit less than you have been"

...which I can only assume means Burke is catching tonight?

And since McLaren likes set roles in the bullpen, maybe someone can convince him to build some bench rules for the last third of the game. Like "if it's past the 6th inning and the tying run is on, Vidro pinch hits for any batter hitting 5th through 8th". Or, "7th inning on, Cairo or Bloomquist pinch-runs for any power hitter who draws a walk".

Since Vidro is done, how is he ever expected to produce?

I can't fathom sending him down when he has been effective, given the state of this pen

So now there is a free ride with McLaren the first month of the season?

Bout time. Except it should be Clement getting the DH nod instead of Norton. Since they have essentially given up on him being a catcher, he needs to be hitting with the big club asap.
