Ever wondered what a batter feels like going up against J.J. Putz and his split-fingered fastball? Today's video footage should give you some idea. It was shot at this morning's minor league game, with Putz throwing two innings for Class AAA Tacoma against Felix Hernandez and Class AA West Tennessee. The footage is all of Putz's second inning of work. He gave up a home run in his first inning, then settled down in the second frame and got three quick outs -- two on strikeouts. He was then left in to face another few batters because he was eight pitches shy of his day's limit. The first extra batter he faces, switch-hitter Jeff Dominguez, winds up lining a double to left center off him. In all, he goes 2 2/3 innings and gives up the home run (to Josh Womack)
I'll still be updating the game thread (my previous post), so you can keep your questions and comments about the game/team/players over there. But if you want to comment on the video, or Putz, feel free to post those here.
