Clement, Jimenez among latest cuts
Posted by Geoff Baker
A look at Brandon Morrow throwing a bullpen session this afternoon that lasted roughly six minutes. Morrow worked with pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre at mainly finding his arm slot and release point again after being sidelined since last week with a fatigued shoulder. Morrow will throw another bullpen on Friday, then could get back into a game by early next week.
"That's not too bad in the big scheme of things,'' Morrow said of the roughly two weeks of action he'd wind up missing this spring.
The team is waiting on a Morrow update before making final bullpen decisions. But some have already been finalized.
Just got word of the latest cuts in Mariners camp and the biggest names out there are catcher Jeff Clement and lefty reliever Cesar Jimenez. Neither is much of a shock, but both had been given outside chances at making the team. Jimenez being sent down to Class AAA means that Eric O'Flaherty will be the team's situational lefty.
"I've always liked Eric,'' manager John McLaren told me moments ago, confirming that O'Flaherty will indeed be the late-inning lefty. "He's a good competitor. He did a great job for us last year. It looks like he's improved this year. He should only get better.''
Clement will likely be back up with the squad this season. But he wasn't going to supplant Kenji Johjima as the starting catcher, or Jose Vidro as DH (at least not yet). The team wants Clement to play every day, so you knew this was coming.
Right handed pitchers Jon Huber and Sean White were also optioned to Class AAA, along with Clement and Jimenez.

Durham? Perfect. Keep the dream alive for old vets!!
Clement is going to end up at 1b or DH anyways, and this team refuses to send Morrow down for the good of his career, so why is Clement any different? Oh yeah, there is a slow, powerless veteran in front of him.
Anyone else realizing that Morrow will never start for this team? So they burn Morrow, but they try and pretend that they care about 'seasoning' players. They only care about seasoning players when it means that they can pamper the vets.

And continuing to play Vidro in all his suckiness continues....

Dude, Vidro is doing exactly what the team pays him to do, and the guys a .300 hitter from both sides of the plate if that qualifies him for "in all his suckiness" then most of the team also "sucks".
I have stated my position that I would like someone ells for DH, (MEAEING I TOO WHANT POWER AT DH) but that does not mean that he "sucks", do you know how many people can bat over .300 from both sides?
Just because he is not what we the fans think that we need at DH doesn’t mean he "sucks"

Just because he is not what we the fans think that we need at DH doesn’t mean he "sucks"
Just because a hitter hits .300 doesn't mean he's good.

Adam- Correct all that means is that he does not "suck" which is my point!

Vidro does, in fact, suck. He's slow. Hits singles at best, when he isn't grounding into double plays and has no power. M's could do far far better in the DH slot. He's among the WORST in the AL. That qualifies for "suck".

Roger That,
Your description of Vidro could also be applied to Tony Gwynn...get off of his ass a little bit.

no surprises here. all 4 of these guys can use more time in Tacoma.
Clement will be this year's version of Adam Jones. Should we start guessing the date will be recalled?
