Waiting on Ichiro...
Posted by Geoff Baker
This is the scene at the front gate to the Peoria Sports Complex parking lot moments ago, as fans wait to catch a glimpse of Ichiro emerging from his physical. I said hello to Ichiro a little while ago, before he began the physical. He's going to talk officially tomorrow. For now, he sweats and the fans wait. Patiently, I might add. They've been standing there for more than three hours.
As you can see, the sun is going down on a beautiful day. Time for me to head out. A little bit of news before we go.
It seems that Anderson Garcia, the pitcher picked up by Seattle off waivers from the Phillies a few days ago, will have to sit out the next few days with biceps tendinitis in his throwing arm. Seems the arm (biceps tendinitis is usually in the shoulder area) became sore today after he threw a bullpen session yesterday. We'll have to keep an eye on that. Anderson is pictured below, walking off the field after today's workouts.
Chatted briefly with Raul Ibanez after his physical. Seems the team actually made him stop running on the treadmill during the physical, even though he was willing to keep going. A good sign. I spoke to Mike Morse, who worked out with Ibanez at the Perfect Competition elite training facility in Davie, Fla. over the winter, and he could not believe Ibanez's leg strength. He'll need it getting to balls in the outfield. That will be worth watching. This team needs a healthy Ibanez, at the plate and in the field.
