Angels in a free-fall
Posted by Geoff Baker
Could have been talking about the first-place Mariners tonight, but that will have to wait at least one more day. The Angels continued their slide, losing once again tonight on a three-run, inside the park homer by Joe Mauer in the eighth inning. A 5-2 defeat to the Minnesota Twins, keeping their lead over Seattle at just one game because of the M's going down to that 1-0 loss earlier today here in Toronto.
The good news for M's fans? The Angels are now through their three best starters, losing two of the games. Now, it's replacement Joe Saunders and Bartolo Colon going next. Will the M's be alone in first place by Monday night? Let's see.
I hear through the grapevine that the Mariners continue to sniff around the San Francisco Giants, looking for some type of Matt Morris deal. The names I'm hearing that could interest the Giants? Not Adam Jones. He's been taken off the table by Seattle in any potential Morris trade. More like Wladimir Balentien and Michael Saunders (a Canadian boy, I might add). Would both have to go? Not necessarily, though these are the names being tossed around in San Francisco. Both prospects played in the Futures Game there two weeks ago.
Now, I'm not saying this is going to happen. Read...my...typing. Only that this is one of the dozens of conversations that's been taking place every day involving the Mariners. Only 10 days until the trade deadline.
Want to hear me say more stuff? Here's a link to one of the two Canadian television shows I did here yesterday. It's on TSN (Canada's version of ESPN). Some of you have emailed in asking about it. Click on the link to the right for the July 20, 2007 show. The four-member panel discussion comes on after the five-minute intro with Lex Luger. Yes, the wrestling guy. Much of the show was about wrestling and steroids related deaths.
Naturally, the show takes a turn towards Barry Bonds and the home run chase later on. So, if you want to see that, keep watching. But no M's talk, sorry. That was on the other network's show, but, unfortunately, there's no link to it.
