Putz results tomorrow

At least there's no more bad news on the J.J. Putz front since the pitcher's MRI exam won't be seen by the team doctor until tomorrow. A radiologist who took the exam has seen the results, but the Mariners have opted to keep those confidential for now. So, fans and pundits will remain in the dark another 24 hours while the team crosses its medical "i"s, dots the "t"s, and hopefully comes up with a formula that enables Putz to take the mound come April. That's looking increasingly doubtful at this stage, though no one is saying anything more about the test results so any speculation on my part is premature. All I know is, Putz isn't likely to be throwing tomorrow morning.

It's now 6-3 for the Mariners in the top of the eighth after lefty George Sherrill walked a batter and served up a two-run double in the sixth to get Kansas City within three. The double came on a Billy Butler fly ball that looked like it might clear the fence in left before striking it and bouncing back on to the field of play.

For those keeping score, that's 21 batters faced for Sherrill this spring, with 11 of them reaching base. Also, seven runs allowed by Sherrill in just four innings of work. The good news? That walk in today's game was just his first. But no, those monitoring the state of the bullpen will not be breathing any easier after today's developments.
