Smith ready for January

Posted by Bob Condotta at 11:24 AM

Want to make sure you saw our coverage of the win over Idaho.

First, here's the game story that focused Quincy Pondexter.

Second, here's the notebook that focused on guard Joel Smith, who made it clear when I talked with him before the game that he wants to play this season, no matter how long he is out. He thinks he'll be back by early January for the heart of Pac-10 play. He said he doesn't want to sit out this year, even if he misses half the season, because he simply wants to play for this team this season.

"I can't see myself waiting,'' he said.

There's also a note in there referencing the recent story about Isaiah Thomas, who will apparently spend two years in prep school, which makes him a potential member of the class of 2008 rather than 2007.

Lastly, here's a look at the season to date for Southern Utah, the team the Huskies will host Monday. As you can tell, Southern Utah has been pretty competitive so far, beating Utah and defeating Idaho with about the same ease as did the Huskies.
