Brockman eyeing the future
Posted by Bob Condotta
I caught up with Jon Brockman yesterday and wrote this story for the paper, focusing on how his next few months figure to unfold.
As he says in the story, Brockman is optimistic of an NBA future, even though he's not included in most/all mock drafts.
In a quote that didn't make the story, Brockman says he knows there are questions about whether he can fit in the NBA but is confident he'll find a way somewhere.
"I personally have not looked at any of the (mock) drafts or what they have me doing here or there just because what I do as a player is something that teams can use and it's just a matter of finding a team or an organization that is looking for my skill set and finding the right fit,'' he said.
As he said in the story, Brockman is realistic enough to know he may have to go to Europe or somewhere else and said he has talked with some of his former teammates about those kinds of options.
But he also said he's fully focused on the NBA.
"I think what's got me to this point is my mindset and just being me,'' he said. "So I'm going to need to go down there (to the Portsmouth camp this week) and show that I'm not just a back-to-the-basket player. But the main thing is not forgetting who I am as a player and forgetting what got me to this point.''
--- In other UW graduate news, here's a box score for the all-star game Justin Dentmon played in yesterday. He had 22 points on 6-16 shooting, 3-9 on threes, and showed the same ability to get to the FT line that he did all season for UW, going 7-8, the most attempts of anyone in the game.
--- And in other Pac-10 news, Oregon State will have the longest winning streak in the Pac-10 entering next season after capturing the title of the CBI last night. Paul Buker breaks that down while also showing why the Beavers are likely to be an up-and-comer next season.
