Oregon keeping Kent

Posted by Bob Condotta

One Pac-10 coaching uncertainty appears ready to be settled as Oregon is expected to announce today that it will keep coach Ernie Kent.

Here's the report from the Eugene Register-Guard saying that Kent will be asked to make some "staff adjustments'' as the team attempts to rebound from a horrendous 2009 season.

The story says, however, that Kent has been told the 2009-10 season will have to be successful for him to keep his job. Oregon plans to move into its new arena for the 2010-11 season.

With Lute Olson's retirement this year, Kent has the longest tenure of any Pac-10 coach.

Speaking of Olson and Arizona, rumors are also flying all over the place about how the Wildcats will hire. FanHouse.com is reporting that the new UA coach will be none other than Mark Few of Gonzaga, though I don't yet see any other reports along those lines. I can say that there have been consistent rumblings that Few could be involved for weeks --- Seth Davis reported he might be interested in February.

What we appear to know now for sure is that Few won't be going to Oregon this year, as has also long been rumored.
