Dentmon denied again
Posted by Bob Condotta
Washington guard Justin Dentmon has again been bypassed in the voting for Pac-10 Player of the Week.
This time, it's Arizona's Nic Wise winning the award. Here's the official release from the conference.
Hard to argue what Wise did, shooting 17-24 from the field and averaging 26.5 points in a sweep over USC and UCLA.
But Dentmon had a great weekend, as well, averaging 24.5 points and hitting 16-24 shots and 10-14 three-pointers in a sweep of the Oregon schools.Dentmon also had nine assists to Wise's four.
Maybe would have been a good week to split the award to honor both guys--- Wise has never won it before, either, and is certainly deserving of it. (That's something the conference has never really done, however, as the last time there were co-winners were twins Jarron and Jason Collins of Stanford in 2001).
This is now the third time in four weeks Dentmon has been nominated for the award and hasn't gotten it, and it continues to be rather odd that a team leading the conference hasn't won it once all season.
What I won't do is say it's an anti-UW thing in any way --- the Huskies won it three times last year, twice the year before that, and four times in 2006, so UW has been aptly rewarded through the years. But it's just not breaking right for UW to win it this year, and with Dentmon being a senior, his time for such an honor is obviously running out.
