Former Husky battling cancer

Posted by Bob Condotta

Sure, Washington's loss to Cal Saturday felt like a real devastating blow to Husky nation.

That we should always remember those are still just fun and games was further reinforced late last week with the news that former Husky Andrew Moritz is now in for the fight of his life, battling a rare form of cancer --- desmoplastic small round cell cancer. He was officially diagnosed last week.

Moritz, a graduate of Franklin High, was a member of the Huskies in the late '90s and 2000, lettering in 1999 and 2000 and part of the UW teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and 1999. (Here's his bio from GoHuskies.com and a story from the Times about his contribution to the team during one of those NCAA tourney seasons).

Mortiz' family has set up a web site to detail his challenge as well as keep friends and others updated on his progress. Here it is.
