Huskies receive one coaches poll vote
Posted by Bob Condotta
Washington is finally again at least mentioned in one poll, having gotten one vote in the coaches poll.
UW, however, remains without votes in the AP poll.
Here are links to the two polls.
It's the first mention of the Huskies in either poll since the week of Nov. 24. UW received votes in both the AP and coaches poll in the preseason and again after the first week, then got a lone vote in the coaches poll on Nov. 24 --- following UW's 2-3 start to the season --- and has been absent since.
UW has won eight in a row, however, including a dominating road victory Saturday at Washington State to re-emerge into at least being a consideration. UW will have a chance to make a real statement this week when it hosts Stanford and Cal.
Cal received 122 points in the AP poll to essentially stand ranked at No. 27 and got 31 in the coaches poll to stand 34th. Stanford also received five votes in the coaches poll, making five Pac-10 teams to at least get one vote in at least one of the polls --- UCLA and Arizona State are each ranked in both polls.
UW is also up to 19th in the Pomeroy ratings with a revised upward projection of 12-6 in Pac-10 play and 21-9 overall. Pomeroy's game-by-game picks (which don't conform with his projections since he accounts for possible unexpected happenings for his projected records) actually call for UW to start out 7-0 in Pac-10 play and finish 14-4.
