Suggs playing hurt

Posted by Bob Condotta

It didn't take long for Washington's traditionally physical practices to claim their first victim --- the nose of freshman guard Scott Suggs.

Suggs suffered a broken nose during an informal scrimmage last Friday when he took an elbow from forward Jon Brockman, becoming the fourth Husky in the last few years to suffer such an injury --- the third in a UW practice or informal run.

Tim Morris suffered a broken nose last year when hit by an elbow from Joe Wolfinger, and Brockman himself broke a nose in a practice during training camp heading into his freshman season. Since-departed guard Adrian Oliver also suffered a broken nose during a trip to Greece last year.

Suggs is limited a bit right now in practice while the nose heals and will likely wear a mask when training camp begins Oct. 17, and possibly into the beginning of the season in early November. But his long-term prognosis is fine. All of the other Huskies who broke noses also wore masks in games for a while.
