Former Husky Femerling in Olympics
Posted by Bob Condotta
The UW athletic department pointed out today that former Husky Patrick Femerling is participating for the German National Team in the Beijing Olympic Games.
Germany defeated Angola 95-66 and lost to Greece 87-64 in Group B play, a game in which Femerling scored seven points. Germany, which also has Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Kaman on its team, is in the same group as USA, Spain and host China and will play the USA on Thursday
For those who've forgotten, Femerling lettered at UW in 1996, 97 and 98 for Washington. He averaged 5.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a junior in 1998 as the Bob Bender-coached Huskies advanced to the Sweet 16, losing memorably to UConn.
A lot of people close to the Bender teams will tell you that the beginning of the end for his regime came the following summer when Femerling decided to forgo his senior year and play professionally in Germany. The move came too late for the Huskies to adequately replace him. UW may the tournament the next year in what was Todd MacCulloch's senior year, but the team was never as good as it had been at the end of the '98 season with Femerling teaming with MacCulloch to give UW one of the more imposing front lines around.
Here is Femerling's page with up-to-date stats from FIBA.com.

I noticed that Femerling before the UW AD did.
I should be the new Athletic Director.

Jeff Goodman lists 10 players who need some comeback years, including QPon and says Huskies could vie for the conference crown if QPon can "come through".

Matty- You flip-flopping is quite amusing, and your stance that Brockman will be a 1st round pick shows how much of a blowhard homer you are. You lose more and more credibility by the minute.
"still stand by bradley and gaddy to texas. Im hoping for bradley though."
" I say realistic because gaddy and bradley are not. as much as Id love bradle I still think they both choose texas...maybe ucla?"
