Draft recap
Posted by Bob Condotta
It's a couple of days old, but here's a good draft recap from the Pac-10 office.
Of most interest is the list of players drafted by conference showing the Pac-10 with 12 and the Big 12 next with nine.

Has WSU ever had a first rounder? And now they are going to accomplish that annually?

WSUx3,
I'm a little slow on the uptake today. Obviousy your comment was tongue-in-cheek.

WSUx3...When was the last time Wazzu had a first round pick in any sport?? Marcus Trufant?? i mean that guys a stud but other than that who??
By the time Venoy's a jr. or sr. that guys gonna be in the league, he's as quick as Mike Conley Jr., and has better D, ask your GOD Rochestie how good the D is..
And Isiah has DJ Augistin written all over him with better O...
I know people are gonna rip me, but I think Qpon has a chance to make it as well..

WSUx3,
Your post shows what you get when you pay for an education in Pullman. It's shameful that they allow such elegance to spew across the screens of the educated no matter your school affiliation.
No matter your level of education, one should be able to see that Brockman is first round material as long as he stays healthy. Thomas should also reach that milestone in the near future but I am not sure about Quincy. As for WSU having first round talent yearly, hum. Wow, where do you see that much talent except on the bench wearing a suit. That suit is what makes the Cougars so good and he will have off years just like Romar. Both are quality coaches but Pullman will never be able to draw consistent first round talent to WSU.

I have seen this so many times. After a NBA or NFL draft people start speculating on future draft picks. Though it is fun to talk about it always seems to be based on speculation. We can all talk about this player and that player, but so many things can happen between now and a year from now. Derek Rose went from a basically unknown high school player (except for those who follow recruiting closely) to a household name and number one overall pick.
I do not see anyone who is NBA ready on either the UW or WSU roster. There is definitely some potential NBA talent there. I believe there is much more on the UW side, but draft stock can raise and fall so fast it is so hard to speculate.
Looking at Chad Ford's top 100 prospects for next years draft, there are no huskies or cougars on the list. A little surprise in my mind that Jon Brockman was not included. He is also not included in any of the mock drafts for 2009. He lacks the flash and athleticism, but his size and drive should make him a possible role player at the next level.
What do you guys think about Jon and his draft stock? Bob, what is the feeling about Jon from him and the coaching staff about the possibility of him playing at the next level?

I'm certainly no expert but with Jon Brockman's drive, physical strength, lack of fear of physical contact and natural rebounding ability I would think he might flourish as a niche player in the NBA. Rebounding is an art to a degree and being very skilled at that one thing so long as you can also play defense will get you some minutes. I didn't see Paul Silas when he was young but he continued to play for years and at the end certainly didn't jump real high but he could sure rebound. Not sure Jon would ever rebound like Silas or Rodman but they were valued largely for that skill alone.
The above strength's allow Jon to clear space inside but to get his shot off in the NBA it seems like he will need to develop a reliable jump hook with either hand like Jamal Williams had; he was probably under 6'5" but could accurately get that shot off against all but the tallest most athletic centers( e.g. had little success against Channing Frye but was unstoppable against U. Conn). He knew how to use his shoulder to keep the player off him and got the shot up very quick.Hopefully this year we'll see more of Jon's midrange jump shot. Just muscling shots up near the hoop won't be enough.

The scary thing is that Wroten Jr. only has us in his top 5?? I mean Romar/Dollar should be camped out in front of Garfield High from now until the day the kid signs...What makes it worse is that he states that Louisville and Maryland are his first and second choices right now, I mean his dad went to Udub, I am praying Broy will be in his ear and lead him to Montlake, how many more times is Ro going to let Pitino out recruit him..
