Cougs lose Abercrombie, more

Posted by Bob Condotta

A few Pac-10 notes to pass along:

--- First, WSU announced today that redshirt freshman guard Thomas Abercrombie has decided to transfer and return to his native New Zealand. The Cougars had high hopes for Abercrombie when he arrived two years ago, but as Vince Grippi of the Spokesman-Review explains, he never seemed to really fit (note is after the football item). Wonder know if this means that Taylor Rochestie won't have to give up his much-celebrated scholarship, after all.

--- Looks like UCLA is set to add center J'Mison Morgan which will only make the Bruins that much more of a favorite in the Pac-10 heading into next season.

--- As might be expected, O.J. Mayo denied all today when interviewed by the LA Times. The Times also had this story today saying USC could lose DeMar DeRozan if the Mayo business leads to real trouble.

--- Buried in the bottom of this Portland State item is a note that former Arizona State guard Christian Polk has transferred to UTEP.

--- The Tucson Citizen reports Arizona guard Nic Wise remains "50-50'' on staying with the Wildcats or transferring.

All for now.

i hope rochestie doesn't have to give up his scholarship just for the reason that i don't have to hear that damn story one more time. how was that really news anyway? a rich white kid from california has his parents pay for college... yeah, that has never happened before.

Everyone knows Tony Bennett forced him out.

I heard Rochestie kept bringing it up to Abercrombie and Abercrombie finally just had enough.

Troubles in the Palouse?

Not to worry at WSU. Coach B is a coach. Weaver, Baynes etc. were not highly recruited players. He, with his dad built them in to big timers and built a pretty good team...not great, but pretty good.
I would not worry about WSU now.
I see WSU in the top 5 next year. Not much slide.

So...tired of the Rochestie story. Nobody on the UW team would do that. All thugs. UW seems to attract the tattooed thug boys from Ranier Beach etc. Great representation of a "quality" university. Keep the delusions alive. Ready for another losing season? Can't wait for football to start the losing slide for next year.

I know UWya. We are starting to look like Memphis as far as the thug look goes. Not impressed with Romar. How is it that 2 years ago, we win 19 games...with 2 McDonald's all americans? For real. The wins came from Portland State, EWU etc. One more year and done if he can win. Let's hire Tony B.

Taylor did a good thing by giving up a scholarship for his team. Never saw that in Hawes 2 years ago. I hear he comes from a very wealthy Queen Anne family. Headed to the NBA. Never gave up the scholarship to help the team.
Who cares if Taylor is from a rich family. Most rich people I know get rich by not giving up aything.
Just my 2 cents. Not even a Rochestie (or however it is spelled) fan. Kind of sporadic spastic player if you ask me.

Hawes didnt even have a chance to offer his scholy because he got drafted. How are you going to compare that to Rochestie, who is not going to get drafted? There is no comparison to be made there, those are different situations. I am not a Hawes fan, never really was. His politics bothered me. But your comparison just doesn't work.

And on 'thugs'. Did you miss that WSU Safety Xavier Hicks is serving time in JAIL, and will be suspended for the first 3 games for Assault and Theft. And wake up to the new world you delusional geriatric; tattoos are much more common than they use to be and dont indicate gang involvement or crime in any way.

Simple minded WSU alums. You have dark days ahead.

im Mikey...
I am not a WSU alum.
If you bring in one person who is going to do jail time that played college football, we should probably extend the discussion to talking about all previous college football players that have done jail time or have been in trouble with the law. I would imagine that there may be a few post UW players in the brink?
Tatt's ...please dude. Your team looks like a bunch of criminals. Way to grow them over there. No I don't live in SPokane. No I don't live in Pullman.

im mikey,

Donít even bother with these posters. They obviously donít have a clue of what is going on at the UW. The only major problem that UW basketball has had in a while was when Artem was in a car drinking and the driver got into an accident. I think we all agree he diffidently doesnít look like a ďthugĒ. Plus, to say some one is an actual thug because they have a tattoo is just ridiculous. These guys obviously donít have life experience dealing with people that donít look like themselves. Go Dawgs!

For tattoos - Venoy is the only one who even has any for the huskies...

Jon Brockman = Thug

Quincy Pondexter = Gangsta

Artem Wallace = From the hood

MBA = Hooligan (Cougs probably aren't cultured enough to get the reference... England... Hooligans...)

WSU = Pullman JC

Wait... that last one IS true.

Can we just stick to basketball?

Sucks getting beat by a JC every year, doesn't it? This discussions stupid anyway. Tattoos, no tattoos, doesn't make a difference how someone acts. WSU players have tats, too.

Bitter uw kids...I know I know...tough getting spanked by the Cougs. Better luck next year...

Word is that Siva is headed to Louisville. Huge blow for Romar to not get a stud point guard from your back yard. Its NCAA tourney or bust for Romar this year.

Man, Brent, that is inaccurate on so many levels. $10 will buy you a subscription to Scout. Not that you have to know recruiting, but when you spout off as if you do some research might help. Siva was never much of a target of UW. Not that the Huskies wouldn't LOVE to have him, but the kid isn't going to go to a school loaded with excellent guards. Thus little recruitment, thus little interest by Siva.

Venoy will be starting at the beginning of the season with Isaiah Thomas waiting in the wings or taking over at the 2. Romar is really shaking in his boots about this prospect.

I will admit that I hate losing to the Cougs...

But, it helps knowing that over my lifetime we (UW) will own the Cougs in EVERYTHING related to sports/academics (I'm sure Pullman JC has a good program here and there, but in the big picture they aren't close to UW).

Enjoy being affiliated with a second rate... er... fourth rate institution.
