Lunardi has Huskies on the cusp
Posted by Bob Condotta
ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has a pre-pre-pre-season proposed bracket for the 2008 NCAA tournament (link here) and lists the Huskies as one of his "last four out.''
Lunardi doesn't view it being a banner year for the Pac-10, including just four conference teams --- UCLA, USC, Arizona and Arizona State.
Most eye-popping is his listing of Arizona as a No. 2 seed. That seems pretty optimistic projection for a team that may be losing its two best players from its 2008 roster, not to mention any possible hangover from the coaching turmoil from last season.
Maybe it's simply a nod to the obvious potential of Brandon Jennings, who if the hype is to be believed, may be good enough on his own to get the Wildcats back to where they were a few years ago.

Hey, this means the Huskies are 5th in the conference. I will take 5th and be in the dance over what we've had the last two years any day!!

alex, i certainly hope you're right. yea, i'm not expecting much from wolf next year, but i hope he makes progress. i think mba's more likely the big man to make a bigger impact next year. he's just more agile, more athletic, and more muscular. should be good competition though.
i was just on dawgman and it looks like there's not a whole lot toher than siva for recruitment for 09. at this point last year didn't they have more 08 commits? maybe not, but i hope we can add a point guard and perhaps a versatile forward.

I think Lunardi's prediction is ridiculous, given that Bayless is certain to go pro, and Budinger may leave Arizona also. Even if Jennings lives up to the hype, will he have a better, more impactful season than Bayless did? Despite the fact that Bayless dominated at times, their record was 19-15. Aside from their three wins over OSU, their record was 16-15. UA basketball has been on the decline since their run in 2005 and is no longer a top program, even though they attract top recruits.

I still think the Huskies could surprise a lot of people next year. Some good potential coming in from high school as well as some red shirt freshmen that could contribute. One big question mark is how much Wolfinger will develope & be able to contribute. All the star 7 footers seem to be jumping to the NBA so looks like it's going to be a shorter league next season.
