Jon Brockman earned his his second straight KJR Radio Most Valuable Player trophy tonight at the annual Washington men's basketball banquet.
Here's a link to the official release.
Brockman was a first-team all-districtselection and a second-team All Pac-10 pick averaging 17.8 points and 11.6 rebounds per game to lead all Pac-10 players for the second straight season. Brockman was also a repeat conference leader in double-doubles with 23.
Along with the team's MVP honor, Brockman received the Tyee Sports Council Community Service award and shared the Coaches Award with freshman forward Darnell Gant (Los Angeles, Calif./Crenshaw), who sat out the season as a red-shirt. Brockman also garnered the Harshman Trophy, recognizing the team's top rebounder, for the third consecutive year. Next season, he will try to become the first player in school history to lead UW rebounders four times.

hey BOB, 2 questions. when are you going to do a segment on JOE wolfinger (i know u did toward the end of the season). BUT MY DAD, pointed out something i hadn't realized, joe has been healthy and stayed taht way since his injury-- which is obviously a huge lift to our team. Both for next year and in the future (w/ brockman leaving, and jus having amaning == we still dont know how gant will turn out).... it is critical, especially to a run next year since we will have (most likely) relatively good guard play. THANKS.

sorry i forgot question 2... question 2 is what do you project next season's pac 10 to be? i ask this because they've already released "preliminary" top25 on espn, would be interested to see whatu think w/ Collison, Mayo, etc leaving, all the coaching changes, etc etc

Bob - Can we feel good about Qpon's awards or what (especially the hardest worker)? He is on the precipice of greatness in my mind. The feeling I had all year is that he was too unselfish and didn't just relax and have fun. Some great opportunities lie ahead for this team.
Oh, one other thing. No seniors received an award. Interesting.

I am telling you guys...look for Gant to contribute next year in a big way (and I'm not just saying that because his name closely resembles mine). Coaches have raved about him, and now he earns an award without even playing. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that he has worked his ass off to get ready for next year. It's just too bad Holiday got hurt after they decided not to redshirt him as well. Turned out to be almost a wasted year for him.

ESPN is reporting that OJ Mayo has declared and will hire an agent. No surprise really.

The coaches gotta pump up Quincy and the other returners for the upcoming, and very critical, season.

Bob, what are the stipulations or considerations for the 101 Club Scholar-Athlete award that was given to Detmon? Congrats to him for earning the award and I would just like to know a little more about it if possible.

Some awards were missing:
Best "Team" Defensive Player - Appleby
Best 7-Foot 3 point shooter - Wolf
Best Family Transfer - Morris
Best Transfer Out - AO
Best "Englishman" - MBA
Did I miss anyone?
I am a die hard Dawg fan, enduring more than most over here in Spokane, as my boss is a Coug, but these awards remind me of my years in junior high basketball where everyone got an award for something.
