Apparent new OSU coach almost played for Huskies
Posted by Bob Condotta
I was doing some reading tonight on Craig Robinson, the Brown head coach who is reportedly set to become the new coach at Oregon State, and learned to my surprise that he almost played for the Huskies.
Here are two stories that detail how Robinson --- who is now the brother-in-law of Barack Obama --- was set to attend UW on a full-ride scholarship out of high school before his father helped convince him he should attend Princeton.
The first is from the Providence Journal and the next is from The New York Times.
Robinson is a Chicago native who graduated from Princeton in 1983 which means he would have been recruited to UW by Marv Harshman. He apparently would have been a Husky during Lorenzo Romar's senior season meaning Romar might have gotten to know Robinson during the recruiting process (I'll have to ask that when I next talk to Romar).
The Corvallis Gazette-Times is reporting Robinson's hire at OSU is a done deal.
