Latest projections
Posted by Bob Condotta
The latest CBI projection has Washington as a No. 1 seed in the West hosting Sam Houston State.
So the first question may be who the heck is Sam Houston State? SHS is a member of the Southland Conference, finishing 23-8 this season, losing in the semifinals of the conference tournament. SHS had a few big wins early, including handing Bob Knight one of the more embarassing losses of his career (56-54 over Texas Tech) and also beataing Fresno State.
The second question may be will Husky fans be excited about a home game against a team like Sam Houston State? I've got to figure they would rather play teams like the No. 2 and 3 seeds, Nevada or San Diego State.
As for the Pac-10, an increasing number of the final brackets have the conference getting just six bids (like this from SI.com). Or even just five (like this from Rivals.com, which also includes a good explainer of how the field is formed).
Here's the latest list of Pac-10 RPIs and as you can see, what may make ASU the odd team out is its RPI of 83, due largely to a non-conference strength of schedule of 296. Only Oregon State played a weaker schedule.
Keep tuned here later for news on the Pac-10 and UW.

cougs will convene to see who brings a crashing end to the only 2 years of significance that WSU has ever known.

Wow! What a compliment to Husky Basketball! Maybe next year you all can hope to step it up a notch and play in the WIAA B School bracket! Your athletic programs are a joke!

Wow, how many here want to see your players embarrass themselves once more this year? Let me see a show of hands. And to pay to do that – that is most laughable reason yet!
I would love to see the DOGS in the CBI....hell if anything, since my favorite sit-com is gone why not settle for the Huskies.

Got it wrong....WSU is a 4th seed....not a 5th seed. Gotta give this team all the respect they deserve because they earned it.

What's even more humorous is that the same PORTLAND STATE team UW played Dec 15th and beat 85-65 is in the NCAA Tourney. And here everyone was laughing at UW’s easy pre-season schedule by scheduling Portland State. I guess we all should have been laughing at Portland State for scheduling an easy pre-season schedule and playing UW.

I forgot to add, I am embarrassed to have graduated from the Univ of Washington. Low standards in admissions and low standard in sports. I’ve seen retards get into the school only because they are in the big city of Seattle. Anyone can attend.

Scheduling Portland State was a favor to Ken Bone who is a former assistant coach of Romar's, check your facts before you come on here screaming about erroneous crap. Bob is there any way to reduce the amount of immature posters so we can have reasonable discussions on here? The comments section has become unreadable as there is always a flood of useless trash talk.
Thanks for making the group on the ESPN contest mattysimone, best of luck to everyone who is filling out brackets.

Listen to the Cougars getting worked up...I would too if I knew I was doomed to irrelevance once the season is over. Enjoy your next 1 or (maybe) 2 games Coug fans.

So will the Huskies gather for a CBI selection show parties? Is it even televised? Maybe it could become an annual event for the Husky Nation. Maybe they should place these tournament bids on e-bay and see who is willing to pay the most for the privilege of having Sam Houston State come to their gym. Meanwhile the Cougs will convene to see where they get placed in the only relevant and meaningful tournament.
