Brockman status uncertain
Posted by Bob Condotta
I'll try to have some more rehash of the game a little later.
But the big news for the Huskies now is the uncertainty of forward Jon Brockman, who suffered a sprained left ankle with 1:56 left in the second overtime.
Brockman said that "right now, I couldn't play.''
And he doesn't have much time to get better as UW will face Cal Wednesday in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament in Los Angeles.
But Brockman said that "if it's just a sprain, I'm playing.''
That was the initial diagnosis afterward, but the injury will be further examined Sunday in Seattle. If it's anything more, he's almost certainly done for the year.
Even if it's just a sprain, it could be hard for him to be anywhere near 100 percent with such a short turnaround. He had the foot in a boot and left the arena on crutches.
That's ominous for the Huskies, who dearly want to play more basketball, feeling like they are beginning to turn a corner with what is still a relatively young team. The Huskies are cautiously optimistic they have some sort of post-season awaiting no matter what happens, but a win against Cal, which would assure a winning record at the end of the regular season for UW (which is now 16-15) would likely all but clinch at least a spot in the CBI.

Great game - Dawgs had a few chances to put it away but just couldn't do it. This team has made great strides playing on the road vs last year. I really don't think the Cougs are any better than the Huskies at this point in the season. Got to credit Coach Romar for the improvement. With some contributions from some freshmen next year in terms of scoring, this team could be really strong. VO is going to be great but needs to work on his shot.
Not sure how Brock can come back that quick even from a moderate or severe ankle sprain (and he probably shouldn't try). Too bad because this team had a legit shot at winning the Pac10 tourney as do 7 or 8 other teams. Just can't see it happening without Brock. Got to be optimistic about next year though.

Congrats to the Cougs. The Bennett's have done an amazing job considering how woeful WSU was before. You have to like these players as they have made WSU a winner, something unthinkable a few years ago. But they don't seem invincible and in fact seem much more vulnerable than last year.
Despite the record this UW team has made huge strides from last year's team. They have determination and grit, they play physical, play strong defense, pound the boards, get contributions from many different players and never give up. They have shown much more poise and some athleticism in the younger players( VO may be one of the quickest players in the league). They are not a good shooting team either from the field or the FT line but should be much better there next year with the guys coming in and more experience in the younger players. If they continue to play this hard they will win some games next year. There has been some criticism and doubt of Romar expressed by some; I really like what he has done with this team. They have clearly shown improvement.

Did anybody see the Dawg Party at MSG tonight?
Nate Rob went for 45, but lost to B Roy, who had 27.

Why not just call me Thug Don?
When Brockman can't step to the parking lot call out, you gotta question his desire to be top Dawg.
Trying to roll negative comments at he Hung Sea Bass Don can get you into a tough sitatuion. So gangsta and tough, the Beaver Gods are gonna clean up the court and get some Husky fans to clean the stands it they can't deal with it.
Holler at a playa when you see him in the street.

If it is anything more than a sprain, perhaps even the CBI tourney will say "NO" to us.
What a horrible, horrible night. It certainly had prospects of being an amazingly awesome night.
