Thursday links --- SI.com's Andy Staples ranks UW No. 23
Posted by Bob Condotta
Another day, another ranking to lead off the links. ...
--- UW is No. 23 in the post-spring power rankings of SI.com's Andy Staples. The bad news for the Huskies is that three teams UW faces in the first six weeks of the season --- LSU, USC and Oregon --- are in the top four. (And he makes a good point there that spring optimism also has to be kept in check a little --- we'll find out in the fall how real the defensive improvement really is).
--- Scout.com caught up with Cooper Bateman, a highly-touted QB from Salt Lake City who visited UW for Junior Day. It's a premium story, but Bateman said he was impressed by the Huskies and liked the family atmosphere of the coaching staff and team and thinks he'd be a good fit in the offense. He said he plans to visit Alabama one more time before making a final decision (sounds like that could come in late May or so). Scout.com rates Bateman the No. 4 QB in the country. Rivals.com has him at No. 6.
--- Here's a story on Chris Polk and Ronnie Fouch from their hometown paper revealing that Fouch is heading to a tryout camp with the Bears. Fouch got eight starts for the Huskies in 2008 after a season-ending injury to Jake Locker, then transferred to Indiana State after the 2009 season.
--- Mason Foster and Donald Butler are mentioned in this list of the top 10 sleeper recruits in the Pac-12 of the last decade.
--- The Eugene Register-Guard's story on Oregon's scheduling indicates the Pac-12 still wants to move one game from the opening Saturday to a Thursday night.
--- Bud Withers has thoughts on a few different topics, including how many star Pac-12 players went undrafted.
---- Stanford may be losing its athletic director.
--- A good collection of links on the sad news about Junior Seau, as well as a touching video. (CoachSark's site also expressed condolences).
--- Interesting story from Rivals.com on trying to recruit while on the hot seat.
--- The Corvallis newspaper takes a look at Arizona in its rundown of OSU's opponents.
