Former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren got to see a spirited Husky practice today, one that was also dominated by the defense.

Holmgren took in the workout accompanied by his son-in-law, Matt Peterson, who helps coordinate recruiting for the Huskies. Holmgren is in town for Easter weekend but otherwise is taking time off these days. He is expected to likely attend a few more practices down the road. He didn't appear to speak to the team or have any real interaction with players or anything, however.

"It's an honor and hopefully our kids recognized that and hopefully he can continue to come out,'' said UW coach Steve Sarkisian. "It's fun. ... Hopefully we play a little better as a team the next time he comes out.''

Sarkisian wasn't happy with some offensive sloppiness as well as a fight about halfway through that elicited some on-the-spot lesson teaching.

The fight occured when Quinton Richardson broke up a pass intended for Anthony Boyles that resulted in a flag for pass interference and then some jawing and pushing and shoving. Quickly, most of the rest of the team joined in, a scuffle that didn't last real long before the coaches broke it up.

Sarkisian grabbed Richardson by the jersey then told the whole team something to the effect of "that's how losers play'' and then made the team run the width of the field, up and back, five times, called gassers.

Sarkisian said he understands that fights will occur but that he was upset that it escalated.

"We just have to learn where to focus and pur your energy,'' he said.

"I was upset that other guys got involved,'' he said. "Two guys get into a scuffle, that's natural. O line, d line, they butt heads against each other all day long, I'd get tired of it to. But when other guys get involved, that's the problem I have and we have to learn that discipline as a football team.''

As for the practice, it was "Turnover Wednesday'' and the defense got a few, including an interception by Johri Fogerson of a Jake Locker pass intended for Boyles during a seven-on-seven.

During the team period at the end, the defense also dominated, the starting defense twice holding the number one offense to a three-and-out. The No. 2 defense also stopped the No. 2 offense, Justin Glenn making a nice play on a swing pass to Willie Griffin for a stop on fourth down.

"The defense did a nice job, a real nice job,'' Sarkisian said.

There were a few bright spots for the offense. Locker hit Chris Izbicki for a TD on a play-action pass during a goal-line drill, and Demetrius Bronson broke about a 30-yard run. Ronnie Fouch also scored a TD for the No. 2 offense against the No. 1 defense when he juked past Donald Butler near the goal line.

NOTES

--- Chris Polk sat out practice with a leg injury and Sarkisian said he wasn't on the field because they are trying to keep him off his feet as much as possible to keep swelling down.

--- Curtis Shaw took a helmet to the knee during the same goal-line drill as Izbicki's TD and sat out the rest of practice.

--- Brandon Johnson sat out practice with a concussion leaving the team with just three healthy tailbacks.

--- WR D'Andre Goodwin also sat out a hamstring injury.

--- Sarkisian said Morgan Rosborough had done a nice job working with the second offense to earn a look as a starting guard, replacing Senio Kelemete for now.

--- PK Erik Folk was 4-6, making four from about 20-35 then missing two from about 38 and 42. Sarkisian said Folk is striking the ball fine but struggling a bit from the right hashmark. Still, he said there isn't really any competition at that spot right now and no other PK is getting any live kicks.

--- Locker once again struggled with his accuracy and Sarkisian said that "we are fighting for consistency'' at that QB spot. Sarkisian said that Locker and Fouch were each "a little up and down'' today, particularly in the red zone offense, which was an emphasis today. Still, Sarkisian said Locker is unquestionanly the starting QB citing huddle presence and game management as other aspects that have him ahead right now.

--- The team will take Thursday off and then practice in helmets and shorts on Friday before holding its first major scrimmage of the spring on Saturday.
