Recruiting update
Posted by Bob Condotta
So if you read Coach Sark's Twitter page today --- not the entry about the Cajun restaurant, but the one below that --- you'll note that the UW coaches apparently met this morning for an 8 a.m. recruiting meeting.
"The recruiting process never ends!,'' he writes.
Indeed, it sounds as if the UW coaches have been busy laying the groundwork for the class of 2010.
UW already has two commitments --- from O'Dea RB Zach Fogerson and Lakes lineman Sione Potoae. You'll remember UW didn't have any commits until late July last year, that coming from QB Keith Price.
And according to Scout.com, UW has 19 known offers, including the two players who have already committed.
The players Scout.com lists as having offers, other than the two already committed, are:
--- QB Jake Heaps, Skyline High;
--- OT Erik Kohler, Oaks Christian High, Westlake Village, Calif.;
--- WR Dietrich Riley, St. Francis High, La Canada, Calif.;
--- RB Anthony Wilkerson, Tustin High, Tustin, Calif.;
--- RB James McConico, Compton High, Compton, Calif.;
--- RB Jordon James, Corona Senior High, Corona, Calif.;
--- WR Jamal Kearse, Lakes High, Lakewood;
--- TE Darius Waters, Lakes High, Lakewood;
--- TE Xavier Grimble, Bishop Gorman High, Las Vegas;
--- OT Chris Ward, Mater Dei High, Santa Ana, Calif.;
--- OT Ben Riva, O'Dea High, Seattle;
--- DT Julious Moore, Bellevue High, Bellevue;
--- DT Cassius Marsh, Oaks Christian High, Westlake Village, Calif.;
--- DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa, David Douglas High, Portland;
--- SLB V.J. Fehoko, Farrington High, Honolulu;
--- CB Demetrius Wright, Corona Senior High, Corona, Calif.;
--- MLB Zac Stout, Oaks Christian High, Westlake Village, Calif.
A couple of initial thoughts. ...
--- Sounds like the coaches will be spending a lot of time at Oaks Christian High with three of the players on the list attending that school. That's a powerhouse high school program in the northern suburbs of Los Angeles (near Thousand Oaks) that may be best known as the alma mater of Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen.
--- Sarkisian said RBs would be a priority in this class after not signing any in 2009, and true to his word, there are three running backs already with offers.
--- Heaps is obviously the headliner of this class and probably the biggest must-get player on the list.
--- Only five of the players on the offer list are in-state players, but remember the two who have committed are also in-state. So that's seven in-state players with offers total.
