Rice says she won't be Pac-10 Commissioner
Posted by Bob Condotta
A spokesman for Condoleezza Rice said today that while the former Secretary of State was approached about being the new commissioner of the Pac-10 Conference, that she won't to pursue the job further and will instead head to Stanford to teach.
"She was approached and she was flattered, but she declined this opportunity to pursue her teaching at Stanford and her pursuit of educational initiatives and the books that she has chosen to write,'' said Colby Cooper, a spokesman for Rice. "But she will remain a fan and a strong advocate of Pac-10 athletics.''
Two sources had told the Times last week that Rice was on the list of candidates to become the new Pac-10 Commissioner and replace Tom Hansen, who is retiring on July 1 after hold that job for 26 years.
