Roderick officially named, and another commit

Posted by Bob Condotta

The Huskies have officially named Aaron Roderick as receivers coach, finalizing the last piece of Steve Sarkisian's new coaching staff.

Here's the official release from the school.

He will get a two-year contract worth $200,000 a year, more than doubling his salary of $92,000 at Utah.

I had written last week that the pool of money seemingly available meant Roderick might receive around $145,000. One thing I failed to take into account is that part of Nick Holt's salary includes a $200,000 retention bonus that he has to pay back if he doesn't stay three years. So that may mean the pool of money available now was a little more than I thought. Or maybe they went a little over the stated $2.1 million budget for the assistant coaching staff to get Roderick. There are some rumblings that the Huskies raised the ante a little after Roderick said at one point Saturday he would stay at Utah.

This now means every assistant coach has been officially hired. All have two-year contracts with the coordinators getting three-year deals, which has never happened, as far as I know, in UW history.

A NEW HUSKY

Also today, Scout.com is reporting UW has gotten a commitment from Kimo Makaula, a 6-2, 225-pound defensive end/athlete from Punahou School in Honolulu. He had been committed to Hawaii and also had an offer from UNLV. His father told Scout.com that he is friends with former Husky linebacker Ink Aleaga, who works in the department now as an academic advisor.

Depending on who is doing the counting, he's the 14th or 15th commit in this class.

AND ONE LAST NOTE

--- Apparently Donald Butler wasn't the only UW player at the inauguration today. WR Jordan Polk was also in attendance, according to a UW official.
