UW just announced the official hirings of four more assistant coaches, none of whom are surprises and all of whom had been confirmed earlier --- linebackers coach Mike Cox, safeties coach Jeff Mills, running backs coach Joel Thomas and quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier.
All four were given two-year contracts, with Cox and Nussmeier making $200,000 per year, Thomas $150,000 and Mills $145,000. So UW's staff is pretty much in place for a while, with every assistant on at least a two-year deal and both coordinators on three-year deals.
That leaves just one spot left, for a receivers coach, and Scout.com is reporting today that the job has been filled by Aaron Roderick, who is the receivers coach at Utah. A Utah source had confirmed earlier in the day that Roderick had been offered the job.
UPDATE --- The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Roderick is in Seattle and is considering whether to take the job but has not made a final decision.
Here is his bio. As you can see, Roderick played at BYU where he overlapped for a year with new UW coach Steve Sarkisian, creating an obvious connection. Roderick is apparently on UW's campus today.
So here's a look at the apparently completed coaching staff:
Head coach --- Steve Sarkisian (five years, $1.75 million first year building to $2.3 million in 2013)
Offensive coordinator/O-line --- Jim Michalczik (three years, $350,000 per year)
Running backs --- Joel Thomas (two years, $150,000)
Receivers --- Aaron Roderick (not officially announced yet so no contract details known).
Quarterbacks/passing game coordinator --- Doug Nussmeier (two years, $200,000)
Defensive coordinator --- Nick Holt (three years, $700,000 per year)
Defensive line/special teams --- Johnny Nansen (two years, $110,000)
Linebackers --- Mike Cox (two years, $200,000)
Cornerbacks --- Demetrice Martin (two years, $100,000)
Safeties --- Jeff Mills (two years, $145,000)
The total salary for the assistants listed above is $1.955 million. UW AD Scott Woodward has said there was a total of $2.1 million for the assistants. If Roderick joins he would apparently getting about $145,000 a year.
That leaves tight ends unaccounted for, but speculation is that that job will be handled by a yet-to-be-announced graduate assistant. The team can have two graduate assistants, typically one on offense and another on defense. Apparently, Torrey Myers, a defensive graduate assistant last season, will stay on. Luke Huard held the other GA spot last year, working with the quarterbacks, but his two years were up and he couldn't return.
Also, there is no one with the title "recruiting coordinator.'' However, it is expected that Jared Blank, the director of player personnel, will handle the detail work of recruiting with Sarkisian heading up the rest of it.
This means the entire staff is apparently in place as the recruiting season gets serious with visits the next three weeks heading into national letter-of-intent day Feb. 4.
