Stadium, recruiting updates, and a little more
Posted by Bob Condotta
We had a couple of different stories relating to Husky football in the paper today:
--- First is this story updating where things are with the stadium renovation, and specifically that a verbal agreement has been reached between UW and the Seahawks for the Huskies to use Qwest Field in 2010, if necessary. The Huskies hope it is necessary because then that means that funding has been approved and construction has begun. As the story details, if funding is approved, demolition of the lower bowl of Husky Stadium will begin almost immediately after the 2009 season, starting a 20-month construction process with the hope it would be completed in time for the 2011 season.
--- We also had this story today on UW's challenge in recruiting this year with the coaching change.
--- Speaking of recruiting, Nathan Fellner told Scout.com that "it's really close'' between UW and Colorado after he took his visit to Colorado this weekend. But he said he still considers himself committed to UW and will visit Washington tihs weekend, which could firm things up.
--- Vince Grippi of the Spokesman-Review reports that WSU is adamantly against moving the Apple Cup to December, which may quash any thought of a UW-Oregon game on Thanksgiving. Grippi says a WSU administrator told him a more likely scenario is moving the Apple Cup to the Saturday after Thanksgiving, as was the case two years ago. But again, all of this is preliminary and nothing has yet been approved.
--- And more Pac-10 notes and links from Ken Goe.
All for now.
