So what now?

After a frantic morning of new, let's try to recap briefly what has happened and what may be in the offing:
--- Pat Hill released a statement saying he is pulling out. He acknowledged in his statement that he wanted to know by Wednesday night so it was hanging over his head when his team began bowl practice today. UW apparently couldn't tell him so he withdrew his name and will stay at Fresno State.
--- Texas Tech coach Mike Leach has also pulled his name out, according to ESPN's Joe Schad, who apparently said that Leach didn't want to wait long. Sources had indicated Leach was set to make a second trip to Seattle, but either those were mistaken or maybe it fell through when Leach decided he didn't want to be involved in the job anymore.
--- If Schad's report on Leach is true --- that he didn't want to wait --- that would indicate that UW has not made a decision and that these coaches are not pulling out because someone else is about to be named as coach, as is often the case in these types of things. Hill also alluded to that in his statement saying that UW was not ready to name a coach at this time. If so, this could last until early next week or so.
--- Was today's drug arrest at Texas Tech a problem for UW? It may have been something that would have caused the Huskies to at least want to get more information.
--- If so, who's left? Schad mentioned USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, Utah's Kyle Whittingham and Boise State's Chris Petersen. I just talked to someone familiar with the Sarkisian situation who said the feeling at USC is that his interview went well. But it's also thought that nothing would happen with him until after USC finishes its regular season Saturday against UCLA --- was that the holdup with Leach and Hill? Whittingham is thought to have been contacted in some manner, and said in a radio interview today that while he hoped to stay at Utah, he added that "I hope things work out for me to stay here,'' according to someone who heard it, raising eyebrows that maybe he has something going on elsewhere, with UW being the only apparent viable option. Petersen is thought to want to stay in Boise, but recent talk that his contract extension has bogged down and the Oregon job being filled long-term have led some to speculate he could get involved. It's known that he's highly thought of by the powers-that-be at UW.
--- Also a possibility, as reported here today, is Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Venables has neither confirmed nor denied reports that he has talked with UW.
--- Is there someone else? Tommy Tuberville, maybe? A guy from Auburn was just on KJR and pointed out Tuberville will get $5 million or so next year to do nothing and the thought is he will want to take some time away. But Mark Emmert and Scott Woodward are obviously familiar with the SEC and probably know Tuberville, so maybe there could be something there. All of this makes you think maybe someone else could be involved, but so far, there have been no substantive reports of anyone else.
All for now.
