Rivals.com reports Haywood to interview for UW job
Posted by Bob Condotta
Rivals.com is reporting that Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Haywood will interview for the Washington head coaching job.
Here's the story.
As the story details, Haywood has connections to UW athletic director Scott Woodward and president Mark Emmert, having worked at LSU from 1995-2002. Emmert became chancellor at LSU in 1999 and Woodward began working there the same year.
Woodward said earlier in the day he would not comment on rumors involving possible candidates.
"I've been a lot of places,'' he said, when asked if he had been out talking with candidates. But he said he would not give specifics.
Here is Haywood's bio.
Woodward also said earlier in the day he would consider coordinators and assistant coaches along with sitting head coaches.
The news is a little of a surprise as Haywood has not been on the general lists of coaches. But considering his ties to Woodward it makes sense that he would at least get an interview.
The author of the story is a longtime Notre Dame beat writer who has written several books about the Irish, and the sources for the story are obviously coming from South Bend as Haywood's absence from practice surely raised lots of questions.
This is the first specific report of a UW interview for a coaching candidate.
