Football coach advisory committee named
Posted by Bob Condotta
The UW has just announced the members of the football coach advisory committee.
The most notable thing about the release is that it states the committee will provide its input to the search by the first week of December, indicating again that a hire won't be made until mid-December or so. Here is a link to the official release.
And here is how it reads:
"University of Washington President Mark Emmert has appointed a search advisory committee to assist in the UW's search for a new head football coach. The committee is chaired by Pat Dobel, a professor of public affairs who also serves as the UW's faculty athletic representative to the Pacific-10 Conference. The committee will report to Emmert and Athletic Director Scott Woodward.
"The committee is to help define and describe the desired qualities and characteristics for the next coach and to ensure that the search is guided by principles at the core of the University's mission. In appointing the committee, Emmert wrote, "It is critical that the person who assumes the job fully grasps and comprehends the values and goals of the University." The committee is expected to provide its input to the search process by the first week of December.
Other members of the committee include Ana Mari Cauce, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Ed Taylor, dean for undergraduate academic affairs; Professor Robert Stacey, representing the Advisory Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics; Professor David Lovell, chair of the Faculty Senate; Randy Hodgins, interim vice president for external affairs; Joanne Bowers, head women's gymnastics coach; Anttimo Bennett, president of the Associated Students of the University of Washington; Jake Locker, student athlete; Andre Riley, representing the Big "W" Club; community members Don Barnard and Bob Flowers from the Tyee Board, and Eddie Pasatiempo, representing the UW Alumni Association."
In one more comment from me, you can see there is some significant football player input from Locker and Riley, who was a WR for the Huskies from 1986-89.
UPDATE 12:10 P.M. --- I can add that the advisory committee apparently had discussions with Emmert and Woodward last night, its work has already begun.
And again, this is an advisory committee. The decision will be made by Emmert and Woodward. But this is a usual part of the process at UW as a state school.
