Former Husky quarterback Hugh Millen didn't back down from his comments about Cody Bruns on the Husky Honks show today on KJR-AM.

As mentioned in the previous blog, offensive coordinator Tim Lappano took issue with Millen's comments in an interview on the station on Tuesday night, mentioning Millen by name and saying he should be held accountable for what Lappano said were inaccurate comments that Bruns didn't want to burn his redshirt year.

Millen today said that "I totally agree with coach that I and others need to be held accountable.''

But Millen said he stood by his comments that he had sources that Bruns did not want to play in the game, and even was asking on the sidelines if there was a way to get his redshirt year back.

Millen said he had "plural'' sources that Bruns "didn't want to play and during the game was asking if it would be possible to appeal to get his redshirt back.''

Millen also said that made his comments taking into context that UW coach Tyrone Willingham had mentioned the previous week the possibility of playing Jake Locker at another position and that even other true freshmen could end up playing this season, along with the fact that Bruns didn't enter the Arizona game until the second half when the score was already 38-7.

"It appears there is going to be coaching change, and as a Husky follower and supporter considering the long term and intermediate term what is in the best interest of the program, when I look at Bruns and the way the situation went down, the time of the game and (playing just) three plays and all that, and if somebody were of a position to be not considerate of the future of the Husky program, that is the type of thing they would do is play Bruns for three plays when the score is 38-7,'' Millen said.

Lappano said Tuesday that Bruns is likely to see significant action the rest of the season and has emerged as one of the team's best slot receivers after recovering from a back injury suffered during fall camp, so it will be worth using a year of eligibility later for the seven games that are remaining this year.

Lappano has insisted that Bruns wanted to play.

Millen, however, said any player is going to say he wants to play if asked and said the coaches need to dig deeper to know what the player really thinks

"They are obligated to know where the player stands,'' Millen said. Asked if he thought Bruns really wanted to play even if he may have told coaches he did, Millen said "no I don't.''

Millen pointed out that seven receivers saw action in the game before Bruns and asked "why wasn't he in in the second series if he's that much better? Why did he not step on the field until it was 38-7?''

Several of us interviewed Bruns after the game and when he was asked if he wanted to play, he said only that "I'm willing to do whatever the team needed, whatever they needed me to do.''

Bruns' father, Bucky, told the Times Monday night that the family didn't have an issue with how his son was used against Arziona and said that Cody "was excited to play the other night'' and had been informed that he might play and that "he can look forward to more playing time'' the rest of the season.

On another note, Dick Baird also said that UW should be fine with receiver depth in the future because he said Luther Leonard "is likely to be a wide receiver down the road, too.''
