Sunday stories up

Posted by Bob Condotta

A quick note to point out that our stories for Sunday's paper are now posted:

--- Here's Jerry Brewer's column in which he says it would be best for all parties if Tyrone Willingham were fired immediately. Jerry also offers his own recap of the UW game in his Extra Points blog. Jerry writes that the decision to take two more redshirts off means Willngham is no longer managing the team with the best interests of the program in mind. Certainly, you have to look now at how this may impact things long-term in years like 2012 and 2013, when the Huskies may again be young due to not having much of a fifth-year senior class.

--- Here's the game story, with more of the comments from Scott Woodward on why he doesn't intend to fire Willingham now.

--- The notebook leads off with the decision to play Terrance Dailey and Cody Bruns. I didn't get in there that Willingham said Dailey might be the team's best running back right now. I guess that would lead some to wonder why he didn't just start the game, then.

--- We also had this look at the game from the Arizona sidelines. And one thing worth noting in this story is the quote from Arizona RB Nic Grigsby saying the Wildcat players sensed the Huskies "were quitting already'' at halftime.

--- The Tucson Citizen's game story is up already, as well, focusing on the impact of the wind early in the game. The way UW played defense in this one, however, not sure how much that mattered. It probably just hastened the kill a little.

--- The Arizona Daily Star's story focuses on the role of UA tight end Rob Gronkowski.

--- The Daily Star also has a note about David Hasselhoff attending the game.

--- And for those wondering where the coaching grade is, sorry I again forgot it --- we were trying to get on the road quickly. But here it is --- F. There's just no way to defend a loss like this to a team like this in the fourth-year of a program. I didn't even think Arizona was all that sharp and they still had this game so in hand that they took out most/all of their starters my midway through the third quarter. And the redshirt decisions tonight were curious, especially Bruns. If you're going to play him, play him. Let him get 35 snaps and a bunch of passes thrown his way, not just three or four snaps and no passes. The game was lost by the time he got in the game. And while D'Andre Goodwin's injury surely forced the issue, seems like they could have waited over the bye week to see if Goodwin was healthy first. It seemed like Tony Chidiac and Charles Hawkins were doing just fine and that given the way the game was going, they could have simply gotten all the work.

All for now.
