Locker out 6-8 weeks, in surgery
Posted by Bob Condotta
The official word on Jake Locker today is that he is out 6-8 weeks, having suffered a break of the first metacarpel.
Head coach Tyrone Willingham said Locker was having surgery Monday morning and that a more detailed prognosis can be made after that is completed. Locker is expected to meet with reporters on Tuesday.
Willingham also said he could envision Locker playing another position once during recovery, saying the 6-8 weeks is how long he would be unable to play quarterback.
Willingham said Locker could play "5-6-7'' different positions, though he wouldn't name them and didn't go into specifics about how of what Locker would be able to do.
Willingham also said that X-rays on the ribs of WR D'Andre Goodwin were negative but that it was still too early to determine whether he will be able to play this week.
Willingham also said it was too soon to know about RB David Freeman (ankles). He indicated that LB Donald Butler could have to sit out this week. Butler will be examined today and again tomorrow after suffering a concussion, but the team is usually pretty cautious with concussions.
