Willingham conference call notes
Posted by Bob Condotta
UW coach Tyrone Willingham just completed his stint on the weekly Pac-10 Coaches Conference call.
I've got to be honest, if you read this or any other Husky blog regularly, there's really nothing new that he said today, in part because since the team hasn't played in a while.
But here's some of what he said:
On whether the schedule will prepare the team for what is left: "The schedule does that for us. ... What we have to do is make it visible to our guys that the three games we played were against three very good football teams. ... I think our guys can kind of understand just from a numerical basis that nine is greater than three and there is a lot we can do, so it doesn't mean by any stretch what we have remaining is easy, but we do know that we have played some of the best teams in the country.''
On whether there is anything special for him about going against Stanford, where he coached for seven years: "There is and there has to be. I don't try to downplay that, but I do try to put it in the proper place … you want to do well, but that connection is there. But at the same time you want to perform well, you want to win, and there may be a little extra (feeling) in the minutes right before the ballgame. But again, I try to put it in the right place.''
On whether the schedule will harden the team for the remainder of the season: "The difficulty of our schedule has the potential to harden us and make us ready for the games we are going to play. Not that you look at that. ... we wanted to win those ball games. ... hopefully we will be a better team, a more mature team (because of the schedule), and some of our players will look up and say I played against some of the best guys in the country and at times I held my own and did a great job and at times I didn't do what I was supposed to do. ... Hopefully it will make us tougher and make us better these last nine ball games.''
