--- For my main story today, I wrote about the suddenly crowded tailback position. UW hasn't had this many tailbacks, who all have some pretty good credentials, in years, and it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
--- Rob Moseley of the Eugene Register-Guard reports that Oregon is doing the split-squad practice thing as well. It's something I'd never seen at UW until Tyrone Willingham got here and now I notice lots of teams doing it --- I read something about WSU doing it the other day, as well. But I think it's also a reaction to the inability to go two-a-days on consecutive days anymore, a rule put in place a few years ago.
--- Marques Tuiasosopo will be the third QB in the game for the Raiders tonight against the 49ers.
--- Here's an update on Louis Rankin from the Stockton Record.
--- Here's an interview with Roy Lewis from SteelCityInsider revealing that he is also playing some safety for Pittsburgh. (Lewis' interview is the third one down).
--- Dane Looker is again fighting for his job with the Rams. That he's still in the NFL at age 32 is really something.
--- Ted Miller does his usual stellar job covering all the Pac-10 bases.
All for now.

I like your info/stories for the most part Bob C. But, what do you mean by "UW hasn't had this many tailbacks, who all have some pretty good credentials, in years." I guess the part I'm being sticky about is the word "CREDENTIALS" what running back on the UW roster has descent credentials besides B. Johnson who actually played last yr.
Everyone else in that back field is a true frosh and havent palyed a down in college. Everyone on the roster was great in highschool or at leasat solid, but maybe you were talking in the sense of just pure numbers and different RB/TB options if change up is needed...

That's great about Looker. That guy is an everyman and sounds like his pro career has mirrored his time at UW. Nothing flashy but he is dependable and gets the job done. He certainly helped out Brock's #'s.

UWLB --- All I'm referring to are the strict numbers. UW has seven scholarship tailbacks right now who all seem to give some reason for excitement. Last year at this time, the Huskies had just five. The year before, I think they had three when Hasty was deemed ineligible. It's just been a while since they've had this many TBs. You're right that we need to wait to really pass judgment on these guys. But at the moment, the coaches seem excited about all of them. But the story itself notes the inexperience issue. No question, that's a concern, though RB is one spot where young players can sometimes make the jump quickly.

Man, Looker is incredible. I still remember him seemingly coming out of nowhere in that first game against Arizona State. From D-II basketball player to 32-year-old NFL veteran wide receiver, what a story.

Bob, I'm hearing a lot more rumblings about a Jake injury now from a lot more places. I hope these are just rumors but one of the writers at Dawgman flat out said Jake is injured and severity is to be announced today.

Realdawg.com is reporting that Jake was walking around after practice without any sort of cast or crutches, sounds like it was just a cramp or something

Any chance we will know the actual extent of the injury prior to 7 PM Aug 30th?
I am going to say, doubtful.

Hamstrings don't heal. He may not be 100% for the rest of his career. 4.4 just turned into 4.8.

So far it is speculation. I'm sure if it was anything serious we'd probably already know.
However, there are a pretty big range of hamstring injuries, with different recovery times.
According to Wikipedia:
"As a general rule, grade one hamstring strains should be rested from sporting activity for about 3 weeks and grade two injuries for about 4 to 6 weeks. In the case of a complete rupture, the muscle will have to be repaired surgically and the rehabilitation afterwards will take about 3 months."

They're running a tease on KJR about a Locker update at 11:30. Now I'm seeing talk about an injury. Is it right about now that I wake up from this nightmare, roll over, and hit my snooze button? Because an injury to Locker would pretty much lower my pedestrian hopes for this team from maybe 5 - 7 wins to maybe 2 - 4 wins. (Yes, I sincerely think Locker could easily account for a swing of 3 wins this year -- see Tui's senior year for the potential impact of a player of this caliber.) Please tell me this is a bunch of hullabaloo about nothing. This poor team doesn't need any more bad news!

It could be a cramp, could be a minor hamstring thing.
Would you rather have that or your likely starting QB just 10 months from an ACL tear making his first start? That's what I thought.

Ty really needs to come through with some actual news and address this... Lambright was not helped by trying to play the sheehee ankle injury close to the vest, and he had a lot more goodwill stored up than Ty...

I think Jake is fine. His minor issue is apparently not the "black friday" news...Perhaps Ty got an extension, someone left the team, someone else is injured more seriously...or it's all speculation. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
