With the Huskies taking the afternoon off, time to catch up on a few former players:
--- Roy Lewis continues to impress in the Steelers' camp, witness this story headlined "Lewis is turning corner as a safety.''
--- Reggie Williams returned to practice with Jacksonville today for the first time since knee surgery a few weeks ago (the link also apparently includes video of Williams).
--- A Raiders blogger wonders when Louis Rankin will get a chance to return kicks.
--- More ex-Husky kick return stories, this one on Isaiah Stanback, saying the job isn't really that complicated.
--- Finally, an injury to Miles Austin could mean more reps for Stanback in his attempt to win a job as a receiver for the Cowboys.

What's going on with CJ Wallace? I haven't watched any preseason games, but I hear he's on the bubble.

Is that for how many Rose Bowls or National Championships the Yucks have won? Totally makes sense.

Ducks won the Pac-10 in 2001/2002, and won the Pac-10's Rose Bowl (it was called the Fiesta Bowl that year because the Nat'l Championship was at the Rose Bowl).

Exactly Sam. You weren't good enough to be in the Rose Bowl that year. Hence you've never won a national championship or a Rose Bowl. Whatever makes you feel better though.

Sorry, the Yucks have never won a national championship and the last Rose Bowl you won was before the wheel was invented.

Just back from four weeks on the road. The economy may be in the ditch, but it's still a great country out there.
Here's one snapshot I will not soon forget. Driving up I-5 through Eugene, a pea green Expedition pulled over at an exit, hood up, a guy standing next to it scratching his head. Expediton is sporting numerous yellow zeros. Just a snapshot, gone in an instant, but perhaps also an omen of things to come on Aug 30. A broken down duck not quite able to figure out how to solve his problem. It suddenly occurred to me why these duck fans picked a zero as their symbol. The sum total of zeroes to infinity is zero.
Very sorry to learn Jake has a hamstring injury. I know from experience that these can be chronic and recurrent if not allowed to heal up----as in really heal up all the way. Hope the coaching staff is playing it as safe as they say they are. Better to hold him out a game than risk a season. Let Fouch be the hero at Autzen if necesary. I recognize they're saying Jake is almost back, but almost doesn't get you there, and there will be no holding this kid back once he's on the field.
Reading earlier posts, it's great to see that the regulars on here who really know football have been amping up the level of substance and commentary as Aug 30 approaches. Keep up the great dialogue you've got going. Far better than most blogs. Reading the reporting, I get the sense the Husky D line is still the big liability (and Ta'amu is apparently out to boot). Does anyone have a more positive take on the line's progress? How are these guys going to contend with Oregon's O line? Nobody said winning at Autzen will be a piece of cake. That's why it will be the upset that shocks the nation.

NS,
based upon their college's national ranking of 100-something, I'm not sure they are even aware that the wheel has been invented. they are still probably learning about fire and how the gods get angry and make their (pot) crops fail with bad weather.

HAHAHA. If semantics make you feel better, fine. Facts are facts though.
Who typically goes to the Rose Bowl (except every 4 years when the Nat'l Championship is there)? Winner of the Pac-10.
Who was the winner of the Pac-10 in 2001/2002? Oregon.
Who was the winner of the Pac-10 champion's bowl game (Rose Bowl) that year? Oregon.
Glad you can hang your hat on a BCS oddity, though.

Keep on ripping my Ducks, and they'll keep on ripping your Huskies to the tune of 5 in a row, baby!

You're right. You Yuck fans should enjoy it while it lasts since you have FINALLY won a few. It was hard to call it a rivalry after plastering you guys every year for the last century. Don't worry though things will go back to normal soon. We'll see on August 30th.

NS, it's not like the Ducks just started beating the Huskies the past 4 years. Since Wheaton picked off Huard in 1994, my Ducks are 9-4 against the Huskies. We've been whipping your butts for a decade and a half!
