Tuiasosopo back to Raiders
Posted by Bob Condotta
Former UW quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo has signed to play again for the Oakland Raiders, it was announced earlier today.
Here's a story from the San Francisco Chronicle saying Tui will compete with Andrew Walter for the backup job behind starter JaMarcus Russell.
Here's an AP story, as well. Tui played with the Raiders from 2001-06 before spending last season with the Jets.
Sounds like a good situation to at least make a roster, and with Russell being pretty unproven --- and said to weigh at least 269 pounds --- who knows what kinds of opportunities could await this season?
This also means Tui could get a lot of playing time at Qwest Field on Aug. 29, when the Raiders close out the pre-season against the Seahawks. Backups typically go most of the way in the final pre-season game while the starters rest.
Here are Tui's career stats.
His signing means the Raiders have four former Huskies on the current roster --- Marcel Reece, Louis Rankin and Greyson Gunheim were all signed by Oakland as undrafted free agents and will try to make the team in fall camp.

Wonder why Tui wouldn't try to get on with a team more suited for his style?
You have to throw the LONG ball with Oakland - not Tui's strength. That being said I thought and continue to think, that Oakland was stupid for not giving him the reins. Tui just makes things happen.
I always thought that Seattle would have been the perfect spot for him. The right offensive system, the right coaching and his stong points are what Seattle looks for in a QB.
Oh well - good luck back in Oakland and lock your car!!

Agree wood, Oakland should have given him the ball for an extended period early in his career. Still, as Bob hints he may yet get another chance, because an overweight JaMarcus Russell is no sure thing.
