Bengals sign Howell, Reece waived
Posted by Bob Condotta
In news involving ex-Huskies, the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday signed LB Dan Howell while the Dolphins waived WR Marcel Reece.
Reece struggled to catch the ball during Miami's weekend mini-camp, as noted in this story here.
Howell got a contract from the Bengals after impressing the team during a tryout this weekend, as noted here.

Congrats to Dan Howell. I'm sure his dad would be proud.

As people have always complained - it's Ty's fault for not teaching him.

Shocking!
A UW Receiver from last year that can't catch the ball and gets cut?
No way!

how on earth did reece earn a scholarship as a wr, don't you have to have the ability to catch a football? it is pretty obvious that he should have been switched to defense, good athletic ability,no hands. Hopefully this years crops of wr's will be able to catch the ball

It would have been nice for Reece to catch better. Despite not the most consistent hands, he still had a nice year for us, more big plays than most other skill guys, over 40 catches as I recall.
It seems he was the most productive receiver we have had in the last 4-5 years, other than sonny shackleford in the first half of 2006.
The coaches saw his potential (that he realized to some extent) and hat is why they never moved him to defense and that is how he earned a scholarship as a WR. Another factor is they had him for two years, really limiting their ability to move him to a new position.
With his frustrating limitations, he clearly was not good enough for the pro's, but was good enough to be one of our better players last year. Hopefully the bar continues to rise in our rebuilding program.
