Pulling their weight

Posted by Bob Condotta

Or, rather, lifting it.

In something I meant to pass along in the earlier post, I asked Cameron Elisara yesterday about the fact that he is often talked about as one of the team's most avid weight lifters.

It's a tough question in a way because there's no way to answer it without sounding boastful, so just to make clear, he was simply trying to give me an answer when he told me, not bragging.

Anyway, Elisara said he has the best squat on the team at 605 pounds.

But he said he other players have bested him in some of the other lifts.

Specifically, he said Darrion Jones and Jordan White-Frisbee have the best bench presses on the team (though he wasn't sure of the number) and that Daniel Te'o-Nesheim has the best clean and jerk ("he took that from me,'' Elisara said.

"Everybody has gotten better,'' Elisara said, saying that of his two years here this was the best winter conditioning the team has done.

Coaches also have said that they are generally pleased with the overall condition of the team.

That's an impressive squat. And to have the highest clean and jerk shows explosiveness. Very impressive that Te'o-Nesheim took that record from the much heavier man.

Bob, I just want to echo what many other posters have already noted, you are having one heck of a spring. Thanks for all the great articles and postings that so many of us look forward to each day.

I'm also impressed by Darrion Jones having the best bench press on the team over guys that are much bigger. Can't wait to see these guys getting after it on the field.

Follow-up question, if anyone knows the answer....

Why were Steve Entman's overtures RE: a weight program rejected? Trying to read between the lines at the time, it seemed he had too many strings attached to his offer, but what kinds of strings were they? Or was it something else?

Thanks for the great work, Bob!

It was my impression that Emtmans offer was for a football only weight room and being a public University and Title nine they couldn't do a football only weight room.

Bob et al,

Cameron was a two-time state champ in shot put and 10th rated in the nation. Isn't Te-o-Nesheim also competing in shot? I'd like to hear some views on how training and competition for shot put compares to football. I would be interested to hear how conditioning and technique relate across disciplines.

As for the football field we've seen what DTN can do. I gotta believe Cameron is going to make a huge impression this fall. He was an animal when I first saw him play basketball as a 9 year old. You could see he just loved to dominate everyone else and wanted the ball when it counted. That is one kid who turned his back on the crimson and grey and is doing all the required work to make his own mark as a Husky.

From a friend close to the team, Kirton is already in the two deeps. Good for him.

Thanks bob. Good to see the team is into HGH. I'd do it if I could.

Usually have that great of winter conditioning means we should have fewer injuries come game time, especially if they keep this up until summer.

Glad to see the team is really, really taking all of this seriously and trying to do their best.

GO DAWGS!!!
