What UW's spring game might have looked like
Posted by Bob Condotta
Interesting story today from ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel on how a number of schools are trying to perk up their spring game experiences with live music, fan competitions and pep rallies.
In fact, the Huskies had an opportunity to take part in this event, and deciding whether to do so is why there was a little delay in announcing dates for spring ball.
Ultimately, negotiations fell through. One reason is that there were concerns whether any of the musical groups being offered would be enough of a draw to really make it worth moving the spring game ahead a week. And as you can see, UW also doesn't fit the preferred demographic of schools "that aren't near major metropolitan areas.''
In the end, the Huskies decided to stick with their regularly scheduled spring ball plans, with the spring game set for April 26.

comercialism is making college football retarded.
We have game delays for television timeouts. Extended halftimes. Recruiting has been turned into a circus. Heck, even Ducks have decided to dress up as clowns.
Let's get rid of all the gimmicks and get the game back to being a game.

Steve Gervais (Skyline HS head coach) to be named RB coach at UW per Dawgman.
Congratulations Steve, maybe he can help lure some of those top prospects from Skyline.

in a similar spirit, they could rename Notre Dame's stadium "the Boyne" to commemorate the multiple military units that whipped the Irish there in 2007

This is football, Bob, not some carnival. This is just like in Rocky, where Apollo Creed is out doing his showboating and publicity stunts while Rocky is in the cold room breaking cow ribs. All we need to do is fire Ty and hire Mickey and we'll be set. We should be eating lightning and crapping thunder.

I would prefer to see Gervais stay at Skyline (for the good of that program and future UW recruits) or come be QB coach.
He seems like he will be an OC some day very soon at this level.
As far as spicing up the spring game, maybe giving Mellodawg a pregame open-mic to share his provocative views on the program in front of the whole crowd - which will be met with swarms of violently thrown tomatoes before he gets any words out other than "Thanks, my name is Mellodawg and I..."
Although this is not commercialism, it too would be retarded...but all in good adversarial fun at the same time.

Bob's haircut,
Perhaps the conditioning coaches should look into having the players chase a chicken around the field this summer. Might help for those 4th quarter fatigue problems and our overall lack of team speed. Torn and tattered sweatshirts are a must for this to work, as I recall.

Re Gervais, kind of an odd choice, don't hs coaches who want to move into the college ranks usually do it sooner like Luke Huard did? TW obviously knows him best after having his son play for him, so I guess we'll have to put faith in his experiences with the guy. After this, Gino Simone and Jake Heaps better end up at UW, though.

...after the last three years, they should re-name Husky Stadium after San Francisco's "The Fillmore"...they didn't play football there either...
